Month: March 2026
Details forthcoming, but stick these in your planners now!

If you’ve been paying attention to the monthly graphic, you know we’ve had a special reading session planned for this Friday.
Let’s call it adventurousness.
Your host had a spot in mind but had difficulty getting the establishment to answer its phone. And found out yesterday (after driving to the spot) it’s closed until the weekend because a movie is shooting there.
Or let’s call it whimsy.
The organizer of a Silent Book Club in SoCal will be in town with some friends, and we are welcoming them the best way we know how: by ignoring them and burying ourselves in books.
You could say it’s flexibility.
Our visitors may show up. Or they may not! You may show up. Or you may not! It’s all Kool and the Gang because we’re book people. We roll up and we read, or maybe we stay home and let the puppy fall asleep in our laps.
Maybe it’s impulsivity.
If we all show up, that would be fantastic! If it’s just your host all alone, that would also be fantastic! Maybe we’ll read and chat. Maybe we’ll just read. Maybe we’ll just chat! Bring a book and a few bucks for drinks or food and find out!
It’s definitely aloha.
“It’s aloha Friday! No work ’til Monday!” Come hang out in far East Honolulu and share some vibes. If you can let me know you’re coming with a text to 830-255-7423 or a direct message (as opposed to just an RSVP on the Meetup site) I would be super appreciative! But as always, it’s okay to just show up.
Kona Brewing Co. in Hawaii Kai.
7192 Kalaniana’ole Hwy
Koko Marina Center

Wednesday night at Proof Social Club.
6 to whenever where Fort St. Mall meets Chaplain Lane.
Bring something to read, or find something cool to take home in the little free library. We’ll also have a book exchange table: drop a couple or take a couple!
Delicious menu by Pasta Boys!
Cocktails, mocktails, and brews!
There’s no program. Just show up and read. Or chat with other book dragons.
We can’t wait to read/drink/chat/eat with you!
Text Mitchell at 830-255-7423 if you’d like a ride home or someone to walk with you to your car or bus stop.
Please add your names to our email addresses!
Thursday is a state holiday!

I am a turkey.
At the Oahu Indie Book Festival in February, I promised updated versions of these lists I (mostly) maintain monthly.
A list of writer stuff for writers and a list of reader stuff for readers. Clubs, workshops, discussion groups, that kind of thing.
One month later, the new lists are finally updated.

As long as we have power, we have boba and music.
Honolulu SIlent Book Club returns to @thebobaroom808!
Our host and performer is 2025 Hoku Award finalist @noahplayspiano.
12 to 2 are for reading and boba.
2 to 4 will feature Noah on piano. And boba.
Come for part of it or come for all of it, and dive into a bathtub-sized bubble tea. The espresso drinks are also quite good.
We can’t wait to read with you!
If there are power issues, we’ll share the info here, so check back before you get in your car. PLEASE drive carefully! Safety first and always!

This venture to the beach is now a virtual venture to the beach!
Gina is hosting us via Google Meet!
You can click the link now for the welcome page and click the Join with Google Meet link to see if your setup is ready for this.
Here’s a shortlink if you want to share the info. Note that it is all caps in the KAWAIKUI part. https://bit.ly/KAWAIKUI
Bring snacks and drinks if you want. Bring a chair or beach towel, and perhaps some sunscreen. Bring your physical books, ebooks, audio books, textbooks, comic books, or whatever!
The rain gods will not hold us back!

I’m super bummed to cancel (I really am. The monthly Kahala Mall meetup is the highlight of my calendar), but let’s be safe.
Read something anyway. Text Mitchell at 830-255-7423 if you have questions or JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU’RE READING. 🙂

Please keep an eye on any of our channels, because chances are better than even we’re going to cancel both of these.
I know. I hate it too. The Kahala Mall meetup is the highlight of my month, but the forecast is for a lot of rain beginning Tuesday and going through Saturday.
Safety first, second, and third. We’ll let you know if things change, or you can text Mitchell any time at 830-255-7423 for the latest. Or just for a silly story.

With a peek at April!

Emily (a librarian!) is our host. Meet in the Language, Literature, and History section — first floor, left wing as you enter, straight back.
Parking. There’s metered parking all around. Street parking is free after 6. The nearest lot is at Iolani Palace (metered, free after 6), which is also secure, because the palace locks the gate at 6. If you wish to leave before the library closes at 7, just let a security guard know and they’ll open the gate for you.
We’ll spend the first half hour chatting and taking voluntary photos. Then we’ll read for an hour, and then call it a night, or chat a little more. The library closes at 7.
