We got rained on in November and December, but it’s a new year. It couldn’t possibly rain on us a third month in a row, right?
Get ready to dive back into the pages! đ⨠Our next Silent Book Club meetup is happening this Thursday, January 8, and we cannot wait to see what you’re reading. Whether youâre a regular or a total newbie, come hang out with the chillest book-lovers in town.
Here is the lowdown for Thursday.
đ The Game Plan: Weâre aiming for the enormous round table outside Whole Foods.
The Signal: Look for the two hippos perched atop a book. If you see the hippos, youâre home! đŚđ
The Swap: The book exchange table is BACK. Bring a book to rehome, or snag a new treasure for your shelf.
The Logistics: Plenty of free parking. Grab food/drinks at Whole Foods (or a beer at Pukaâs!), or something else from inside the mall, but there is zero pressure to buy anything.
â° The (Very Loose) Schedule: Weâre here for the vibes, not the clock, but hereâs the flow.
6:00 PM: Arrival & Socializing. Say hi, grab a snack, or just find your spot.
6:30 PM: Group photo (optional!) and the main event: Reading! Any book, any format. Yes, audiobooks totally count! đ§
7:30 PM: Chat, keep reading, or head home. Your call!
âď¸ The “Yucko” Weather Rain Plan: If the clouds turn on us, weâre pivoting! Weâll grab tables by the Whole Foods door under the eaves and snag some spots inside the mall.
đĄ Pro-Tip: Itâs been a little rowdy lately (trucks, kids, the usual chaos). If you want total zen, pack your noise-canceling headphones!
đ Need a lift? Don’t stay home just because you need a ride. Text Mitchell at 830-255-7423 and he’ll take you home.
See you Thursday! Letâs make some progress on those TBR piles! đĽđ
Join us at Proof Social Tuesday night, from 6 to whenever! There is no program or schedule. Just show up, find a spot, and read! Or chat! Or chat about reading!
The vibe is mellow, bookish, super welcoming, and inclusive.
Bring something to read, or find a new fave in the Proof Little Free Library (on the shelf in the cozy corner).
We’ll have a book exchange, so bring a few or take a few. We don’t have rules.
Pasta Boys will serve their final plates of deliciousness of the year to accompany the bar’s yummy cocktails, mocktails, spirits, and beers. What pairs well with Fitzgerald or Austen?
1154 Fort St. Mall #10, where Fort Street meets Chaplain Lane. Text Mitchell at 830-255-7423 if you have questions, if you get lost, if you would like company walking to or from your car (or bus stop), or if you’d like a ride home (I’ll probably leave just past 9).
The kitty lamps are getting ready for silent reading Thursday night! Are you?
Meet at the enormous round table outside Whole Foods Market, if itâs available. Look for two hippos perched atop a book on the table, and youâll know you found us. Weâll have the book exchange table again, so bring a book or two if youâd like to make room on your bookshelf. Or find some good ones to take home!
Plenty of free parking, and of course many options for food and drink (even beer at Pukaâs if you consume in our usual meeting area), but no pressure to spend money at all.
Text Mitchell if youâd like a ride home! 830-255-7423!
Weâll follow roughly this schedule:
6:00 say hi (or not!), get something to eat or drink (or not!)
6:30 optional group photo, read whatever youâve brought in whatever format! Yes, of course audiobooks are welcome!
7:30 chat or keep reading or call it a night!
Weâre not rigid about time, so these are just approximations. đ
Itâs been a bit noisy lately, so if youâre sensitive to the sounds of yelling kids, beeping trucks, and loud engines, bring some noise-canceling ear things if you have them.
RAIN PLAN: Weâll try to get the tables right by the Whole Foods door, beneath the eaves, and take a few tables inside the mall. If you usually come early (Baron, Terecia, Deb, and Jacob!) and the weather is yucko, maybe we can try to claim tables inside early. I haaaaate to forgo the introductions and stuff so somebody think of how we might do it in the mall without drawing mall securityâs attention.
Canât wait to read with you. And youâre not going to BELIEVE what Iâm bringing to read! đš Aco-scuse me?
We are celebrating the holidays with a readup at The Boba Room in the Waipahu Shopping Plaza, the same plaza as Savers and Maxâs of Manila. 94-300 Farrington Hwy, #G-15.

I would love for someone else to run the white elephant grab bag activity. Please let me know if youâre willing, and weâll work something out! I’ve already planned a fast-paced game (if you don’t have a better idea). I would just love it if someone else would execute it.
Please don’t let the distance from town deter you! Let’s work out rides!

The park is on the far edge of Aina Haina going east, practically the last thing before Niu Valley. It has free parking, shady trees, and a (public park) restroom.
If the parking is full, maybe wait a few minutes to see if anyone leaves, and if not, the closest neighborhood parking is on Kirkwood, which is a 7- to 10-minute walk from the beach park.
Gina is your host!
Look for her in a shady spot on the Waimanalo side of the park (the left side as you’re facing the ocean)!
