More bookish nonsense Wednesday night at Proof Social Club!

6 to whenever where Fort St. Mall meets Chaplain Lane.

Bring something to read, or find something cool to take home in the little free library. We’ll also have a book exchange table: drop a couple or take a couple!

Delicious menu by Pasta Boys!

Cocktails, mocktails, and brews!

There’s no program. Just show up and read. Or chat with other book dragons.

We can’t wait to read/drink/chat/eat with you!

Text Mitchell at 830-255-7423 if you’d like a ride home or someone to walk with you to your car or bus stop.

Monday! Honolulu SIlent Book Club returns to The Boba Room!

Leeward bookdragons, you have no excuse!

Our host and performer is 2025 Hoku Award finalist Noah Hull.

12 to 2 are for reading and boba.

2 to 4 will feature Noah on piano. And boba.

Come for part of it or come for all of it, and dive into a bathtub-sized bubble tea. The espresso drinks are also quite good. I had a lovely Americano last month.

We have new stickers from @miyoartdesign so make sure you get one to put somewhere conspicuous!

We can’t wait to read with you!

Thursday night your Honolulu Silent Book Club rides again!

Kahala Mall. In front of the Whole Foods Market. Look for two hippos perched atop a book on the big round table if it’s not raining. Nearby (possibly at the tables under the eaves) if it is raining, BUT I DARE IT TO RAIN!

Although there are lots of food and drink options, there’s no pressure to spend money. Lots of free parking. Decent bathrooms.

We’ll have a book exchange table (if no rain). Bring a few or take a few or whatever. We don’t have rules.

Bring something to read! Physical books, ebooks, audiobooks, or even textbooks!

It can get a little noisy, so bring noise-canceling ear things if that bothers you. Baron donated foam earplugs, which I’ll bring if I can find them.

We’ll say hi and chat for a while at 6, then take a voluntary group photo (someone remind Mitchell to do the group book photo this time). Then we’ll read quietly for an hour. At 7:30, stick around and chat, keep reading, or call it a night!

Can’t. Wait. To. Read. With you!

THIS EVENT IS CANCELED BECAUSE OF YUCKY WEATHER! Please stay safe and dry, and read something UNSAFE and as wet as you like!

See you at Kahala Mall Thursday night!

Saturday February 7! 3 to 5 pm!

Kawaikui Beach Park is on the far edge of Aina Haina going east, practically the last thing before Niu Valley. It has free parking, shady trees, and a (public park) restroom.

If the parking is full, maybe wait a few minutes to see if anyone leaves, and if not, the closest neighborhood parking is on Kirkwood, which is about a 7- to 10-minute walk from the beach park.

Gina is hosting! Look for her in a shady spot on the Waimanalo side of the park (the left side as you’re facing the ocean)!

Bring snacks and drinks if you want. Bring a chair or beach towel and perhaps some sunscreen. Bring your physical books, ebooks, audio books, textbooks, comic books, or whatever!

We’ll chat a little, take a voluntary group photo, then read for about an hour, and then chat a little more. Socializing is totally optional, of course! Please add your name to our email list (if you’re not on it).

The weather is supposed to be yucky. Please keep an eye on any of our channels (including this one) for a cancelation announcement if it’s too wet!

More info coming, but here are the basics.

  • State Library with Emily (Thursday the 5th), 5 to 6:50
  • Kawaikui Beach Park with Gina (Saturday the 7th). Keep an eye on this spot and on our other channels to see if weather allows us to meet! Or text Mitchell at 830-255-7423!
  • Kahala Mall with Mitchell (Thursday the 12th), 6 to 8.
  • The Boba Room with Noah (Monday the 16th), 12 to 4. This lovely boba spot in Waipahu hosted our holiday meetup, and now it’s hosting us for a readup. 12 to 2 for reading; 2 to 4 for Noah Hull’s live piano music.
  • Oahu Indie Book Festival at Hawaii State Library with Mitchell. The fest begins
  • Proof Social Club with Mitchell (Wednesday the 25th), 6 to whenever.

Thursday! The Hawaii State Library in Honolulu’s lovely Capitol District provides the moment post-January quietude we need.

Honolulu Silent Book Club meets in the state library’s Language, Literature, and History section — it’s on the first floor’s left wing as you enter, and straight back.

Emily the Librarian is our host!

Bring something to read or come a little early and find something in the stacks.

Library closes at 7, so we’ll wrap up shortly before then.

Say hi and chat (optionally). Read for an hour. Stick around and chat some more (if you want!).

There’s metered street parking all around (free after 6), or DM us if you want a tip on free parking nearby. See you there!

Emily the Librarian is our host!

You’d better bring something to read. We don’t know WHAT you’ll do if you show up at the library bookless!

There’s metered parking all around. Street parking is free after 6, so you’ll pay for an hour at most. DM if you want some inside info on free parking.

If you’re socially challenged (like @scrivener), just remember the magic words: What are you reading? How is it?

Friday! January 23! 5 to 8!
Honolulu Silent Book Club is taking a field trip to the massive Friends of the Library of Hawaii Annual Music & Book Sale. We’re talking thousands of books, vinyl records, CDs, and rare finds, all waiting to be rescued and taken home.

If you’re a Silent Book Club newcomer, look for Mitchell in a red dress shirt.

5:00
Meet at the entrance (Ward Centre, in the old Famous Footwear/Roger Dunn space). Browse and shop! No rush, no pressure—just pure treasure hunting.

6:00 (ish)
We’ll walk across the street to South Shore Market.

6:15
We’ll sit at the long communal table on the ground floor for some silent reading and chitchat with our new hauls. I mean with each other. Look for the STOKED wall!

There’re lots of food and drink options nearby, but there’s no pressure to spend money.

Join us for either part of this activity, or stick around for the whole thing. 🙂

The Google street view photos might be out of date, but they give you an idea of where this is. In slide 2, that pinkish-red space is where we are, but you have to enter from around back, Auahi St. You can park anywhere in the nearby parking garages.

Text Mitchell at 830-255-7423 if you have questions or if you get lost. Or if you’d like a ride home!

Books Down, Buzzers Up: Trivia Night at The Manifest!

Thursday the 15th!

Your brain is not only good for devouring novels. It’s time to put all that book knowledge to the test!

Honolulu Silent Book Club is breaking character for a rare, non-literary field trip! We are ditching the quiet for a little healthy competition because the best stories aren’t found only in books — they’re found in the wild over a shared table and a “wait, I actually know this!” moment.

We’re stepping out of the library and into the lounge to strengthen our community bonds, making sure everyone (especially our newest members!) feels right at home in the mix.

We’re hitting @themanifest for a double-header of Sporcle Trivia hosted by the legendary Quizmaster @sporclejonathan808. Okay, not legendary, but Mitchell’s good friend for about 20 years.

6:00 PM
Meetup & Mingle. We’re arriving early to snag the best table in the house!

6:30 PM
Game 1 kicks off.

7:30 PM
Game 2 for the “we almost had it!” redemption arc.

9:00 PM
We’ll probably be done by now.

Whether you’re a history buff, a pop-culture pro, or just really good at guessing, we want you there. If our crew is big enough, we’ll split into two powerhouse teams to double our chances of glory!

Don’t feel pressured to stay all night. Join us for one game, or settle in for both!

We want everyone to focus on the fun, not the logistics. If you need a lift home after the games, text Mitchell at 830-255-7423. We’ve got your back!
